I think Daisy learned a lot as a radar girl, and has a better sense of her own worth by the end of the book, I think she can better hold her own with him. Not sure if they will ever get to friendly, but maybe the relationship will become warmer. Not sure that in her case I could ever get over the fact that he shot her dad, even accidentally, anyway. And at least Walker seems like the kind of guy who is going to stand up for his wife if his parents aren’t being respectful.

Exactly! I feel like I’ve read a lot of books set during WW2 in the last few years, but for the most part they have been set in Europe. Reading about the experiences of a group of women in Hawaii gave this WW2 book a very unique perspective

Daisy is in for a tricky in-law relationship with the Montgomerys! Do you think she’ll be able to find forgiveness and a friendly relationship with Mr. Montgomery? How about Mrs. Montgomery, who was only slightly more likable than her husband in this book?

My answer — Fluff. My younger years were marked by dating all the wrong guys until God finally decided enough was enough and gave me a wonderful man as my husband. Fluff had a similar situation.

I loved the historic Hawaii setting. Of all the historical fiction I’ve read from WWII, this was the first one set in Hawaii following the attack on Pearl Harbor. I liked learning about what life was like for the locals during the war and reading descriptions of Oahu from a local’s perspective.

I thought this book was a good fit for the challenge. I thought that the book contained quite a bit of description about the setting. I could imagine the characters going about their lives in Hawaii, a place I have never been to. And then more importantly for the challenge, I think that the setting of this book was a crucial part of the story. This story would not have be able to be set anywhere else, the attack on Pearl Harbor and everything that followed because of that, are so specific to this location.
