St. James incorporates this element without it being overbearing. The one can almost apply a “logical” explanations to certain events. In this novel, the supernatural element helps to move the story forward as well as being a means to let the reader know about events that took place in the past.

I don’t automatically gravitate to supernatural or horror stories. St. James makes the events and the characters’ reaction to the supernatural events, if not completely plausible, worthy of contemplation.
