It’s only one sentance, second to the last paragraph in the author’s note (at least my edition). She says that the Michael J Fox foundation was a great resource when she was diagnosed. I probably would have missed it if I wasn’t specifically looking for the reference. We have an author guide for her that includes a link to a great article she wrote about her diagnosis if you’re interested! https://bookgirlsguide.com/fiona-davis-books/

She really buried it in the notes! In my copy, it’s the 2nd to last paragraph. She refers to the Michael J Fox Foundation being helpful when she received her diagnosis.

We have a Fiona Davis author guide (https://bookgirlsguide.com/fiona-davis-books/ ) and toward the end in the author bio section we link to an article to wrote about her diagnosis if you’re interesting in learning more.

I’ve been fascinated by that aspect in several of her books. I think young adults would LOVE to have an affordable option for living on their own like this today. -Melissa

I have only read The Dollhouse and The address (and now The Spectacular). Of these 3, while The Dollhouse was still good, it was my least favorite of the 3.

Yes, entertaining, fast, easy read and I learned something new. Can’t get better than that. It did have its flaws, but overall it was good.

I enjoyed the story as it was a unique setting. I really liked hearing about the Rockettes and their history. I do agree it was simplistic in the writing. I wish the history of the corporation was fledged out more for us to better understand what happens in the 30’s and 40’s, but otherwise we got to hear about the bomber and his issues and family. I also liked the development of all the characters. I think we got to know them pretty well. I appreciated Marion’s tenacity and fortitude in that day and time period. Peter’s devotion to mental illness, development of new strategies and his life story was great, and it helped to understand the ending better. Though I think the love story at the end, as you state, should have been developed more, it wasn’t realistic.
Overall I would give this 4 stars. I was entertained, read it quickly and I learned something new. What more could a girl want in a book!

I think those are fair reasons to be disappointed! I always tend to read her books in a bit of suspended reality mode and enjoyed this one as much as the others, largely because I knew very little about the Rockettes or the bomber. But, thank you for being specific about the reasons this wasn’t your favorite. While we’d love everyone to love every book we suggest, we know that’s impossible since we don’t connect with every book ourselves.

Am I the only one? I hate to be the downer here, but this was my least favorite Fiona Davis book. I found the writing a bit stiff and simplistic. Marion and Peter going off on their own to solve the bomber case was silly and unrealistic. Also, they saw each other for the first time in over 30 years and they immediately knew they were meant to be…come on, they knew each other for two months when they were in their 20s.

I think she was brave to go out & try out, then live that life without her father’s approval. Good for her!
Then to have the compassion to go back to take care of him, that is unconditional love. Not sure I could have done that after all that knowledge.
