I picked this one up because I’ve gotten very interested in environmental conservation – and I’d also read her earlier book Solitude of Wolverines. I enjoyed learning about the STEVES – my daughter Aurora has always – since she first learned to talk – called things (pumpkins, Thanksgiving turkeys, random toys) Steve, and so thee Aurora-like (she’s named after the lights) lights named STEVES was super cool.

I enjoyed the environmental stuff in the novel – and learning about the polar bears and biological research. I agree with you, though, that all of the crazy encounters was a wild ride that ended up distracting from the book. I also wanted more of a wrap up or at least a hint of what would happen with Casey – maybe another post card or…?

I picked this book because I love polar bears and have an interest in wildlife biology. I felt like the multiple encounters with “bad guys” was a bit far fetched but I enjoyed the book anyhow. The processes described for the research was cool and facts scattered here and there on the different wildlife species was interesting as well. Would definitely recommend!
