I love that you have several go to options! Driving was my activity, but now I work from home and haven’t really found a replacement. I don’t mind cooking/baking but the clean-up. 🙁

I read this book this month also. It has become one of my all time favorite books. I loved the relationship between Starla and Eula! Eula reminded me of the maid I had while growing up in the early sixties. Her name was Daisy and I loved her so. She was kind and attentive to me. I was heart broken when she quit when I was about 5. With improvements in civil rights she was now able to attend nursing school. Until this time blacks were not allowed to do so. Being a nurse was a dream of hers. I’m sure she mage a wonderful nurse and her patients were luck to have her.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I agree with Jaimette that Starla seemed older than nine years old. But I still fell in love with this book and Starla’s journey and the people she met along the way. Most of them anyway.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I loved this book for so many reasons, including the love of baking. I bake for fun, for cookies and my infamous cheesecakes. I can’t go to a pot luck without being asked to bring a cheesecake. Which is fine because they aren’t something I make for myself.

For “a thinking activity” I enjoy making cards with rubber stamps and die cuts. If I’m not doing it with friends it’s a good time to be thinking about whatever is on my mind.

I also enjoy doing Diamond Paintings. I find it very relaxing. Sometimes I do it quietly while thinking things over. I also find this a great time to listen to books on audible.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I really liked how Eula baked and taught Starla to bake as a way of working through her feelings. Especially since then she sold or shared the goods, instead of overindulging as she had a lot of thinking to do!

Does anyone have other productive “thinking “ activities?

I did read it this month. I am not sure a child Starla’s age thinks like she is portrayed, but I am happy that it all worked out in the end.

While I might say the plot itself is a bit farfetched, I absolutely loved the characters. Anyone else read it this month?
