I couldn’t believe how little their stipends were either. I was also uncomfortable by how many times they were treated more as errand boys, which I don’t think is the case today.

I agree that this was a much more favorable portrayal. I just read Jacqueline in Paris and found her simpering and dumb and we know she wasn’t dumb!

I really appreciated how Hill portrayed Jackie. I read another book about her that portrayed her as kind of weak and her marriage as weak.
I think Hill portrays her as quite strong- an excellent ambassador of goodwill worldwide, knowledgeable about history, culture, art. Also, unlike so much of what is written, he views the Kennedy marriage as positive and strong. The Crown portrayed Jackie as very weak. Hill describes Jackie’s meeting with the Queen as warm and positive. What did you think?

I was surprised as well by how low their stipends were. And how much they were expected to work! I wonder if things have changed…

I could not believe how little they had for a daily stipend. I know the dollar went further but that was so little.

And they had very little backup or help. Schedules were rough & how hard on his own family.

When you read something like this from our relatively recent history it really puts a spotlight on how many modern inventions & technologies we count on daily — much less in a highly dangerous job like this!
