I’m so happy that I finally read it! I thought it was beautifully written. I felt like I could truly see and feel the atmosphere with the author’s descriptions. She also did it in a way that wasn’t overly wordy, and seems to really have a gift for conveying feelings and moods with very few words.

I agree that Mabel and Jack were renewed by Faina’s being “born” into their lives, but oh my gosh, so bittersweet. My hear still hurts a little, but in the best way. Definitely agree with your “haunting” statement. Great story! It’ll be with me for a long while.

I can’t imagine surviving the rugged and rough life or rural Alaska in the 1920s. I think Faina brought Mabel and Jack new life.
