        I personally am embarrassed to say that I would not be stripping my extra beds of sheets and blankets and giving them to shelters.  I may fix food, give time, buy things but not disassemble my house.

          I think it’s important to remember what a unique situation this was.  Gander was very isolated- if the residents didn’t chip in there weren’t many other options.

          I’m in a suburb of Boston- if it happened here they could have just put everyone in hotels, the infrastructure could handle the influx of people.  I believe there was a similar number of planes that had to land in Vancouver as in Gander, but they would have not needed as much individual sacrifice in order to take care of the passengers.
