I had no idea how much I would LOVE this book! In my opinion this would be a great book to be read in middle school classes. Thoughts?

Agreed! I don’t know how I waited so long to read it! All my teacher friends say they love to read this one with their classes.

I think I am too far from my middle school self or having children in the age range. I did not get as emotionally connected as I thought and even took some heat from a friend, who works in a middle school, by my rating. Maybe a better read for a younger person, than a middle age , empty nester without grandchildren, even though I gravitate towards coming of age stories.

I am a retired middle school teacher. We read this as a school before the movie was made. We had a guest speaker who suffered from the same disorder come and speak to the student body. It was a very positive experience.

I wholeheartedly agree. I taught 5th/6th grade and would have loved to share this story with my students. The audiobook was well done with children’s voices, also.
I listened with my two children (ages 8 and 10) and followed up with the movie. They enjoyed both and we had some great conversations together. The topics are “real” for parents and children alike.
We also purchased “365 Days of Wonder” which has a precept for each day of the year.
