    It was a good fit for the Australia-New Zealand Challenge — (not the USA Challenge  🙂

    The size of Australia is comparable to the USA, surrounded by ocean but 75% desert and far fewer people.  I think that this book gave you a sense of the enormity of the ocean landscape and the desolation of a life as a lighthouse keeper with minimal contact with others outside of your immediate family.
