        Initially, I was put off by the author’s rather disjointed writing style.  But it fits Cadence’s mental state so perfectly ….. I just didn’t realize until the big reveal about the fire and deaths!!

          I wanted to like the book, and I liked parts of the story… but at the end the book didn’t do it for me. I think maybe the writing style. 🤷‍♀️

              I agree!  I read this a few months ago and do think it was writing style.

              I thought this was pretty sophisticated YA writing. The style most definitely reflects Cadence’s mental state, as do the heavy, violent metaphors. I found the book mysterious and edgy. It reminded me of the work of Celeste Ng, but with a lot less plot.
