Definitely. I found it very interesting. I had learned about McCarthyism in school and had heard my parents mention it, but reading about it from the perspective of those directly affected by it really brought it to life. The Chelsea as a haven to established artists and those stuggling to make a name for themselves puts it squarely in the time period. And the references to Dylan Thomas, Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin put it squarely in the time period.
Definitely a good book to brush up on my history, or if you didn’t live during this time frame. The Chelsea girls is very interesting. And I feel like I’ve learned a bit more about history when finished.
