Unpacking Migrations

I struggled with how the world seemed to be continuing without so many animals. That did not seem realistic to me, not sufficiently apocalyptic.
Whether her mental health issues are or are not a product of her environment, she certainly has them.

I, too, loved this book and plan to nominate it for my local book club for next year. It does have a lot to unpack that should lead to good discussions.

I loved this book. So many layers to sift through, so much to think about. I got the sense the world was slowly dying along with the animals. Extinction of many/most animals is the tip of the ice berg.
Franny’s ability to lie to herself about her mother and husband seems a parallel to everyone’s ability to lie to themselves about the state of the earth.

I really enjoyed that this was such a different book to what I ordinarily read!  I did think Franny had mental health issues, but given her family history, how could she not have so much unresolved trauma?? I agree that it seemed strange for most animal species to be dying out but nothing else was really highlighted to make it truly feel apocalyptic.  I’m glad there was Franny’s additional backstory- this helped me to stay invested to find out what really happened.  The ending was terribly sad, but I’m glad it ended with her father, giving all her pain some redemption.
