    • What would you have done? As I read the book I kept wondering what I would have done if I were different people ion the book.  Of course I know what I think/hope I would have done.  But it is hard to imagine. I do not think I could have had the forbearance of Melba and the others not to fight back in the face of such abuse. As a parent could I have let/encouraged/supported my child to take that abuse for the greater good? As a teacher would I have been strong enough to stop the abuse in my presence?
