Lark I thought Lark was a great character. It was a great balance of seeming not to care, yet caring so deeply! Do you know anyone like Lark?

The theme of death This book had a much bigger impact on me when it was over than while reading. so much death - miscarriages, parents, fish, main characters, jobs. This contrasted by the 24/7 trees. logging was required for survival - logging was literally killing them. I couldn’t stop reading when I thought Chub had died. I was kind of freaking out!

Rich’s Decision What do you think about Rich's decision to use their life savings to buy the land without discussing (or even telling) Coleen? I know this was the late 70s and things were different. But wow, I can't image making such a big decision without discussing it. If I were Coleen, I don't think I could have forgiven that.

Should this book stay on the list? Was this book a good fit for the Read Around the USA Challenge?
