I knew a little bit about forced sterilization, but before reading this book, I had no idea of the full extent of how pervasive this horrific practice was.  I had no knowledge about the lawsuit at all.

Did you know anything about this era with regards to this topic?

I am a fairly well read, educated person.  I just wonder why we don’t know these awful things happened in our not so distant past.

I agree!  I was a bit too young to know first hand at the time. But, why wasn’t I taught about it in school, at home, in life as I grew older. Did I just not commit it to memory?  Was it too short on the news cycle?  What else is there, that I should know but don’t?!

It’s true that many such shameful parts of history are never highlighted. I was shocked too to learn about a phase in my history when sterilization was forced or people were coerced into getting it done.

I was recently at a political meeting where a woman put forth this idea for the party platform: Poor people should not be allowed to have children since studies show poor children have a much harder time in life across many measures.  Forced  sterilization for the parents. I was astounded.  However, not one other person, except the proponent, voted for this.

Wow!  Good to hear no one else thought this a good idea.
