Do you think this book was a good fit for the Read Around the USA Challenge?

I thought the book was a good fit for Connecticut (although it could have taken place elsewhere).  More than the location, the premise of the book is what made it a memorable read.  Jodi Picoult wrote each character with enough empathy that the reader could understand their point of view.   I generally don’t rate many books 5 stars so this one was very close with a 4.5+.

I think this book is excellent, but it didn’t necessarily connect to the location.

Definitely keep this book. I did think it fit well with the location. People think blatant racism only happens in the South, but it happens everywhere.

Absolutely! This was a very good book. And the content matched with this location demonstrates that such situations can happen anywhere in this country. I actually feel that it was more “genuine” than if the author had placed this story in the South. That may have felt too expected, typical.

I think that is a good point, about avoiding the stereotypical south.
