Were you drawn more toward Ruby or Eleanor? Or both?

I did connect with both but Ruby was just that bit more relatable with her struggle. She had no one in her corner unlike Eleanor who had William in her life.

I connected to both, but I like Ruby more. Ruby was tough and determined to make her way out of the poverty cycle. Eleanor appears as a very typical 1950’s college student, more determined to get a MRS. than a degree. Marriage will improve her social status. The hardships of Ruby builds her strength. Eleanor’s miscarriages delete her strength. It was such a powerful book with the duel stories. I liked the ending. There was a connection between Rudy and Eleanor, which I’d been looking foras I read.

True! Ruby’s goal was independence. Eleanor’s was to forge a good life for herself through marrying well and then fitting in!
